One Team, One Dream. That’s the theme at Crawford Woods this school year…and it couldn’t be more fitting.
Every new school year brings new faces, new opportunities and a few challenges along the way. But this year, Crawford Woods has experienced a transformation unlike any other. Through the district’s restructuring, the school welcomed 100 new students and 13 new staff members into the Crawford Woods family. What could have been a challenge has instead become an incredible opportunity. One that’s bringing new faces together with familiar ones, creating new connections and building something truly exciting!

From the very first weeks of school, students have been learning what it means to be a Wildcat. They’ve been working hard to understand and live out Crawford Woods’ expectations: Be respectful. Be responsible. Be honest. More importantly, they’re learning what those words look like in action and how they apply throughout the school. And they’re doing a great job.

Day by day, students are learning, growing and doing their part to make Crawford Woods a place where everyone feels safe, valued and welcomed. But the students aren’t the only ones learning. The Crawford Woods staff has been growing together, too. With so many new faces joining the team, staff meetings have included fun “getting to know you” activities designed to build relationships, create connections and help everyone feel a little more at home.

There’s also been time for professional development, giving staff opportunities to learn more about one another, strengthen their teams and discover new ways to work together. Because when teachers and staff feel connected, supported and valued, that sense of unity naturally makes its way into the classrooms and ultimately benefits every student. And, of course, no new school year is complete without a little fun!

Crawford Woods students recently kicked things off with an exciting Pep Rally filled with school spirit. There was plenty of cheering, the singing of the school song, and even a lesson from Principal Hopkins on how to do the Wildcat Strong Cheer. It was the perfect way to bring students together and remind everyone that they’re part of something bigger than themselves.

Teamwork has also been front and center during team-building activities for students in grades K-6 during their Specials, including Art, Music, Gym and Library. The activities have been fun, but they’ve also had an important purpose: learning how to communicate, problem-solve, encourage one another and work together toward a common goal. And the students have risen to the occasion.
At the conclusion of the team-building activities, classrooms had the opportunity to compete against one another, putting their teamwork skills to the test. One of the biggest hits was an activity called “People Movers.” The challenge sounded simple…but definitely wasn’t. Students had to figure out how to move their entire class across the gym using just two gym mats, without anyone touching the gym floor. It took communication, creativity, problem-solving, and most importantly, it took everyone working together. The students embraced the challenge, proving that when they put their heads together, there’s almost nothing they can’t accomplish.

And that’s exactly the kind of spirit Crawford Woods hopes to continue building throughout the school year. Plans are already underway to incorporate more team-building activities and events, creating even more opportunities for students and staff to connect, collaborate and strengthen the sense of unity and community that’s growing throughout the school.
Every new school year brings its share of challenges. But challenges also bring opportunities to learn, to grow, to try something new and to become better than we were yesterday. At Crawford Woods, this year’s already proving that change can be the beginning of something truly special. With new faces, new experiences and new opportunities ahead, there’s plenty to be excited about. Because no matter what this school year brings, one thing remains at the heart of Crawford Woods: One Team. One Dream. One Wildcat family.
