Kicking Off a New School Year

Kicking Off a New School Year

Back to School. A time when school supplies start hitting shelves, school year bedtime routines are back in place, and the thrill of a fresh academic year is heavy in the air. For Crawford Woods staff, heading back to school is a time that is met with excitement as well as preparation. To start, staff participate in three days of Professional Development. During those days they learn new processes and procedures, they get energized for the year ahead and engage in discussions that aim to make the school year a huge success. Additionally, HCSD Employees take part in an all-district convocation. The event focuses on building enthusiasm for the school year and doing things the top-notch “Hamilton Way”. It’s also a time when teachers and schools are recognized for their services and accomplishments. Crawford Woods was recognized for receiving the “Momentum Award” from the state of Ohio for their improved test scores! What an honor!

Another telltale sign that school is nearly back in session…is Open House. A time when the anticipation of a new academic year is thick in the air. A time when teachers and students get to meet each other, when students get to see their classrooms, and when parents are able to receive important and valuable information about the upcoming school year. Open House at Crawford Woods always has great turnout, year after year! Seeing all the new and returning Wildcats never fails to spark joy in the staff at CW.

One event at Crawford Woods that continues to be a huge blessing to the community, as well as the school, is the Back-to-School Bash. The Back-to-School Bash is an event put on by Pastor Josh Colon and Princeton Pike West. At the event, which is held in the CW parking lot, backpacks are handed out to kids free of charge as well as haircuts, groceries and even health care. Food is served, there’s music and there’s even a raffle for bikes! It’s an event that touches lives each and every year.

Once school starts the days begin to roll by…

  • MAP and Amplify assessments help teachers see where students' strengths and weaknesses are academically…which helps them be effective educators.

  • PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) Matrix reviews introduce or reinforce behavioral expectations and the reward system.

  • And then…there was the super fun…Spirit Week! Held during the week of the Hamilton vs Badin Football Rivalry game, the students and staff at Crawford Woods truly let their Spirit shine bright! Whether they were repping their favorite sports teams on Monday, gettin’ Tropical on Tuesday, bein’ Wacky on Wednesday, or goin’ vintage on Throwback Thursday, the school was bustling with Spirit! However, the most pride filled day…was Friday. A day when students and staff showed their Hamilton pride by making the day a big beautiful Blue Out.

Next up for Crawford Woods are the much-anticipated Homecoming Parade and Hispanic Heritage Month—two events that are not only fun,but also give students the chance to make lasting memories and foster a lifelong love for education.
