Congratulations to Badin High School senior Braelyn Even, who is now the leading scorer in the 60-year history of the BHS basketball program, girls and boys.
Braelyn set the record with a 14-point outing on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Dayton Carroll, giving her at that time 1,348 points. That eclipsed the previous mark of 1,342 set last year by Gracie Cosgrove ’25. (Yes, those two made quite a scoring duo for three straight Badin teams that reached the Elite Eight game during their years playing together.)
Even was named the GCL Coed Division girls basketball Athlete of the Year as a freshman, then the Defensive Player of the Year as a junior. She is also a two-time GCL Coed Athlete of the Year in the girls soccer ranks. She’ll play Division I women’s college soccer at the University of Cincinnati.

Even, Cosgrove, and Emma Broermann ’19 (1,291 points) – who is playing professionally in Europe -- are the leading scorers in Badin basketball history. Cosgrove now starts as a freshman at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus. John Richter ’89 with 1,229 points is the leading boys scorer for Badin. He played college basketball at the University of Dayton.
Other 1,000 point scorers in Badin basketball annals include Kim Kraft Richter ’90 (1,228), Kara Gerbus McGaughey ’12 (1,178), Zach Larkin ’16 (1,180), Lizzy Sunderhaus ’08 (1,081), Steve Eyl ’84 (1,043) and Jada Pohlen ’22 (1,001).
Auggy Newberry ’27 was the City Manager and Abby Bartlett ’27 the Superintendent of Schools as 26 Badin students joined with their counterparts from Hamilton High School for the annual Civics Day program on Nov. 6.
The students get to shadow their various professional counterparts and learn the ins and outs of local government in what is a valuable annual experience. They wrap it up with a meeting and luncheon at the Fitton Center.
Others involved from Badin included senior Bryson Bowling and juniors Maddie Anthony, Kellen Burke, Gwen Culley, Cody Elliott, Maguire Francis, John French, Clare Giffen, Bella Heile, Catherine Hoeting, Keith Mayer, Gabe Miyahara, Connor Pallazza, Misha Patel, Sophia Paul, Olivia Pratt, Gabby Samples, Keegan Schultz, Finn Stagg, Maddie Stephens, Sophia Stitzel, Lily Tischler, Hans Wolterman and Zack Zettler.
In addition, Mrs. Megan Halverson, Badin’s Director of Christian Service, was honored for her excellence with a special Civics Day proclamation. Mr. Jordan Seitz, Social Studies teacher, coordinates Civics Day at Badin.
The very first “Breakfast with Santa” was a big hit at Badin on Saturday morning, Dec. 13. A total of 47 families – representing 197 attendees – enjoyed a pancake breakfast, an interactive adventure with activities to the North Pole, and a visit with Santa over a two-hour period.

Jackie Noelker ‘16, Badin’s Young Alumni Director, coordinated the event and noted that students from 15 different grade schools were represented. She said it would certainly return to the calendar in December 2026.
“You plan things and you never know how they’ll work out,” Noelker said, “But this event was a great success. A lot of smiling faces. We’ll definitely do it again.”
Save the date for Saturday, April 25, when the Badin Athletic Hall of Fame induction dinner will take place in the Pfirman Family Activity Center. Those outstanding athletes scheduled for induction include Wayne Doehlman ’63, Scott Sherman ’82, Jessica Flannery Spaeth ’06, Lizzy Sunderhaus ’08, Zach Toerner ’09 and, in the volunteer category, Dirk Q. Allen. In addition, Terry ’71 and Phyllis Milillo Pfister ’71 will be honored as the Legacy Family. Reservations are $50 each and will be available online via the Badin website, BadinHS.org, in the near future.
